Critical Update Notes

1. **IMPORTANT Security Conversion: Revised 9/27/2011** Please review the following requirements below if you want to convert your existing security settings to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.

a. Click HERE to download a script required for the security conversion. This script does the following:

     1. Update any invalid records in the Audit Trail Codes (SY01000) table in each company.

     2. Check for duplicate records in the SY01000 table. 

     3. Verify all Microsoft Dynamics GP user logins exist.

     4. Verify if multiple users are in the db_owner role in the DYNAMICS database and each company database.

     5. Checks for instances where both the PMCHQ and PMCHK TRXSRCPX exists.

     6. Remove any invalid companies entries from the DYNAMICS database if the database does not exist.


​b. Make sure you have a backup of the DYNAMICS database and execute the script in Query Analyzer or the SQL Server Management Studio. Review the results returned. If results are returned indicating duplicate records in the SY01000 table, please contact Microsoft Business Solutions Technical Support. Refer to the Support Information section below.


​​c. If you do not receive any results from the above script, you can move forward with the Microsoft Dynamics GP Update.

d. **IMPORTANT**Click HERE to download the latest patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.  NOTE: There were issues with the security conversion with previous patches of Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.


e. **IMPORTANT**There is currently an outstanding issue with the Sec10conv.exe in the latest patches for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.  Payroll Tax Update KB's: KB 2502038, KB 2549240 and KB 2552042 currently have an issue where the DYNAMICS database update will get into a loop when converting security.  The current workaround is to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package on the machine where you are running Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities for the update.  This does not need to be installed on all client workstations following the update.

​NOTE:  This issue will be resolved in the next patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 due out November 2011.


​f. Install Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 at the machine where you are completing the update. Before launching Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities, install the latest patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.​


g. Launch Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities to start the update. 

 

2. **ISSUE RESOLVED**This issue is resolved in Hotfix KB 2477916 or any later patch. If electronic funds transfer payables payments exist in Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 that have not been generated to an electronic funds transfer file, the update to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 will fail on the CM20202 table. It is recommended to generate the electronic funds transfer file for all electronic funds transfer payables payments prior to updating to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. To determine if you have this situation, go to Tools, click Setup, click Purchasing, click Electronic Funds Transfer and then click EFT File Generation. The records that exist in this window have not had the electronic funds transfer file generated. Please click the checkbox next to each record and generate the electronic funds transfer file. Make sure to check all checkbooks that are setup for EFT transactions. Once the EFT file(s) have been generated, you can submit the file(s) to your bank if appropriate or save them to a file for later use.

 

3. If you currently use Extender with Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 and are updating to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0, Service Pack 4 is required for the update. Service Pack 4 is build 10.00.1368 KB 971808. Please install Service Pack 4 prior to running Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities. Click HERE to download Service Pack 4. Following the update, you can then install the latest hotfix for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.

 

4. If the SQL Login for the DYNSA user is missing, Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities will appear to hang at the gray screen.  In the SQL Server Management Studio or Enterprise Manager, verify the DYNSA SQL Login exists.  If it does not exist, create the DYNSA SQL Login.

 

5. **ISSUE RESOLVED**This issue is resolved with Service Pack 4 or any later patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. Click HERE to download the latest patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.
The patch release installations are changing the OLEPath in the Dex.ini to the default local path. If you use OLE Notes and have a path to a network share, make sure to review the Dex.ini at each client workstation following the hotfix installation to ensure the path is correct. This issue is currently under review for a fix release. The default location for the Dex.ini is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\Data.

6.**ISSUE RESOLVED**This issue is resolved with Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Service Pack 4 or any later patch.  Install Service Pack 4 prior to launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities for the update to resolve the issue. Click HERE to download Service Pack 4.




If you are updating from Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 with version 9.00.0337 or later and using Microsoft SQL Server 2000, the SEE30303 table will fail with the error "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near '('." This table is for the Historical Inventory Trial Balance (HITB) product.  Even if you do not use the product, the update will fail as it is installed by default.  This issue will be addressed in an upcoming service pack.  Refer to the workaround steps below:

​a. Do not restore the company database.  Leave the company database at the failed state.

b. Close Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities.

c. Run the following script in Query Analyzer:

​UPDATE DYNAMICS..DU000030 set Status = 0, errornum=0 where fileNumber = 1 and PRODID = 5597

d. Run the following script in Query Analyzer to create the required index on the SEE30303 table:

CREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX [AK5SEE30303] ON [dbo].[SEE30303]

( [GLPOSTDT] ASC, [ITEMNMBR] ASC, [QTYTYPE] ASC,

[SEQNUMBR] ASC )

e. Launch Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities and select the company database. Click Update to finish the update process. The SEE30303 should not fail.

 

7. If you are updating from Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 with version 9.00.0337 or later, do not select the option to configure an existing instance at the Instance Selection window when installing Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.  This is a new feature added in Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 where the Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 client instance updates the Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 client instance. There is currently an outstanding issue with the Historical Inventory Trial Balance (HITB) product and the client instance update feature.  The HITB dictionary files are not updated correctly and therefore you cannot update the HITB product which is installed by default. The workaround is to select Create a New Instance at the Instance Selection window and enter a new Instance Name for the Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 installation. This issue is currently under review to determine when it will be addressed.

 

8. If you use the Retail Management System (RMS) Integration for Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0, please review the update requirements below.


Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0
The RMS Integration for Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 does not update to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.  You will need to setup the integration again once updated to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. Refer to the steps below to take screenshots of the current setup in Release 8.0 and remove the SQL objects prior to the update.

a. Click Tools | Setup | Retail Management | RMS Integration Setup. Take a screenshot of this window.

b. Take a screenshot of all accounts for each store and each tender.

c. Click each tab (Inventory, Tax and Details) and take a screenshot of the setup in each tab.

d. Make sure you have a good backup of the DYNAMICS database and all company databases.

e. Click File | Maintenance | SQL, click DYNAMICS in the Database list, click RMS Integration in the Product list. Select all tables in the list, click Drop Tables and then click Process.

f. Click the company database in the Database list, click RMS Integration in the Project list. Select all tables in the list, click Drop Tables and then click Process.

g. Repeat step f for all company databases.

h. Make another backup of the DYNAMICS database and all company databases.


Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0
Refer to the workaround steps below to update the RMS Integration information to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.

a. In Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0, click Tools | Setup | System | Retail Management | RMS Integration Setup. Verify the version at the bottom is 9.00.131. If you do not have version 9.00.131, click HERE to download.

b. Make sure to install the RMS Integration module when you install Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 for the update.

c. Before launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities, go to Windows Explorer and to the Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 installation folder. The default location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP.

d. In the Data folder, make a backup copy of the Dex.ini.

e. Open the Dex.ini in a text editor.

​f. Add the following lines to the bottom of the Dex.ini. Close and save the Dex.ini.

​​DuExtractSQLResources=TRUE

​DuUseResourceDlls=FALSE


g. Launch Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities for the update. When the Upgrade Microsoft Dynamics GP window appears indicating a previous version of Microsoft Dynamics GP has been detected, go to Windows Explorer and to the Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 install folder.

h. Go to the SQL\Upgrade\2365\9.0.0\System\Preload folder. Open the DU000010.out file in a text editor and delete the contents of the file. Close and save the DU000010.out file.

i. Go to the SQL\Upgrade\2365\9.0.131\System\Preload folder. Open the DU000010.out file in a text editor and delete the contents of the file. Close and save the DU000010.out file.

j. Go to the SQL\Install\2365\System\Data folder. Open the DU000010.out file in a text editor and delete the contents of the file. Close and save the DU000010.out file.

​k. Go back to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities and continue the update.

 

9. Please review the update path requirements for updating the Spanish-Latin American translated release of Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.


Updating from Release 8.0 to Release 10.0

a. Service Pack 5 for Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 ESLA must be installed prior to updating. Click HERE to go to the download site.

b. Service Pack 11 for the localizations for Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 ESLA must be installed prior to updating. Click HERE to download Service Pack 11.

c. Hotfix KB 948883 or later must be installed prior to launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities for the update. Click HERE to go to the download site.


Updating from Release 9.0 to Release 10.0

a. Refer to the update paths above.

10. If you use Cashbook Bank Management, make sure that you install the latest Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 patch prior to launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities. Click HERE to download the latest patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.

 

11. If you use Canadian Payroll and are updating from Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0, you must install the 10.0 2008 Canadian Payroll July Tax Update prior to launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities for the update. Click HERE to download the latest patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.

 

12. If you use Audit Trails or Electronic Signatures, you must install 10.0 Service Pack 2 or later prior to launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Utilities for the update. Click HERE to download the latest patch for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.

 

13. If you currently use Multi-Lingual Checks with Release 8.0, use the steps below to update to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.

a. Service Pack 5 for Release 8.0 must be installed before updating. Click HERE to go to the download site.

b. Make sure you have a good backup of the DYNAMICS database and all company databases.

c. Click HERE to download a script that will temporarily remove the mlcchklyt column from the EDCML004 table. If records exist in this table, the records will be saved. This is currently an outstanding issue with the 10.0 Version Check. This issue will be fixed in Service Pack 2 this summer.

d. Execute the script in Query Analyzer or the SQL Server Management Studio against every company that uses Multi-Lingual Checks.

e. Install Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 from the CD-ROM. DO NOT install any service packs or hotfixes for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 prior to updating.

f. Click HERE to download a script that will put the mlcchklyt column and records back into the EDCML004 table.

g. Launch Utilities and update the databases.

​h. Once the databases are updated, install the lastest service pack or hotfix for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. Click HERE to go to the download site.

 

14. The Business Portal Migration Utility can be used in upgrades from Business Portal 2.5 Feature Pack (2.7) or Business Portal 3.0 to Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. The utility is not required for new implementations of Business Portal for Dynamics GP 10.0. 
As you prepare to update from Business Portal 2.5 Feature Pack or Business Portal 3.0, your customizations will determine whether you need to use the Business Portal Migration Utility. If you’ve added users to Business Portal or modified queries, those changes will be upgraded automatically when you install Business Portal for Dynamics GP 10. You won’t need to use the migration utility. If you created or modified pages, web parts, document libraries, or announcement web parts, you must use the Business Portal Migration Utility in order to move these changes forward. When using the migration utility, you’ll have the option to view a list of changes and decide whether to migrate individual changes. If a change is no longer required or can be easily recreated in Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10, you would not need to run the migration utility. For example, Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 or Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 6.0 to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010. If you have any questions regarding upgrade services, please reach out to your Microsoft Dynamics GP Partner and ask that they open up an Advisory Services Request with Microsoft for you.


6. Due to the length and potential complexity of upgrade cases, the following protocol is used to divide upgrade issues into separate technical support cases.

2. Case 2 - Installing Microsoft Dynamics GP and running the upgrade in Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities on the company databases and the modified forms and reports.

3. Case 3 - A potential issue in Microsoft Dynamics GP following the upgrade.

NOTE: If the technical support cases were for a test upgrade and assistance is required for the live upgrade, a new case will need to be created to troubleshoot the issues for the live upgrade.

Once you update to Release 10.0 and need assistance, please have the following items available before contacting Technical Support to assist in the troubleshooting process.​

1. A Dexsql.log that traced the update process.

​​​If a Dexsql.log was not created, please refer to Knowledge Base Article 850996 for the steps to create a Dexsql.log.

2. The results of the following script executed in Query Analyzer, the Support Administrator Console, or the SQL Server Management Studio.
