Critical Update Notes

1. If you would like to migrate customizations from Business Portal 3.0 to Business Portal 5.0, click HERE to download the Business Portal Migration Utility.
What does it do?
The migration utility was created to migrate customizations from Business Portal 3.0 to the most recent release of Business Portal (This include Business Portal 4.0 and later releases).

Items that can be migrated with the Business Portal Migration Utility:

• New web parts

• Modifications to default web parts, including titles, query associations, number of rows returned, and publish/subscribe settings

• New pages

• SharePoint lists and libraries that don’t contain folders

Items that can be upgraded without the Business Portal Migration Utility:

• Roles and role assignments

• Users

• Data permissions and data permission assignments

• Queries

Question: Do I need the Business Portal Migration Utility to upgrade to Business Portal 5.0 or 5.1?
Answer: You will only use the Business Portal Migration Utility if both of the following conditions are true:

• You are upgrading from Business Portal 3.0.

• You have created new web parts, modified current web parts, new pages, or SharePoint lists and libraries that don’t contain folders.

If you are using Business Portal 4.0 or you are using Business Portal 3.0 and have no modifications that are listed above, you do not need to use the Business Portal Migration Utility.

Question: If I need to upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and Business Portal 5.1, what are my options?
Answer: If you need to proceed with the Business Portal Dynamics GP 2010 upgrade at this time, the options include:

• Upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10 (Business Portal 4.0), using the Business Portal migration Utility. Then, upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 (Business Portal 5.0 or 5.1)

• Upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 (Business Portal 5.0 or 5.1) and re-create the customizations, if needed.

• Start new using Business Portal 5.0 or 5.1, and re-create the customizations, if needed.

2. If Electronic Document Delivery was installed in any versions prior to the Business Portal 5.x upgrade, there will be an error when upgrading Business Portal, "Electronic Document Delivery is not registered". This is due to the fact that Electronic Document Delivery has been discontinued in Business Portal, and the functionality has been moved to Dynamics GP 2010. In the SQL Server Management Studio, run the RemoveEDDFromSystem.sql script against the DYNAMICS database and run the RemoveEDDFromCompany.sql script against each company database. These scripts will remove all of the Electronic Document Delivery objects.  You can then proceed with the upgrade.

3. If you have several users setup in Business Portal, you can use the Security Synchronization Utility to transfer those users to SharePoint following the upgrade.  Click HERE to download the Security Synchronization Utility.
